Oxford Brookes University offers one of the very best and most interesting Undergraduate Fine Art BA programmes in the country.
Our course enables students to develop and produce challenging contemporary artworks that often emphasise audience and context, and investigate the role of the artist in the 21st century. As a Fine Art student at Brookes you can expect to be exposed to a range of practices that will enable you to link traditional skills and approaches with new and alternative media in order to develop an imaginative, critical and informed fine art practice.
Fine Art BA Hons is one of several programmes of study offered by the School of Arts at Oxford Brookes. Courses in art include the Foundation Diploma and Postgraduate Degrees both taught and by research. As a student you will benefit from excellent and well equipped facilities, 24 hour access to your own studio spaces and the help and support our team of practising artists and the other specialists in the field who work here.
The staff who teach Fine Art have a wide range of practice and research interests and expertise including:
- Contemporary practices in Sculpture; Painting; Photography; Video; Sound; Installation; digitally generated and manipulated work; bookworks; printmaking.
- The dynamics of site; movement, structure, chance and time and how they might be used to convey meaning via video works.

- Museums, Heritage and Contemporary Art.
- Curatorial interventions.
- Performative actions and the artist's body.
- Social Sculpture and the legacy of Joseph Beuys.
- Practice engaged with environmental and colonial discourse.

Oxford is an excellent centre for the study of art with the Ashmolean Museum, Christ Church Picture Gallery, Modern Art Oxford and a rich variety of architecture. As an Oxford Brookes student you will benefit from special relationships with contemporary galleries Modern Art Oxford, OVADA, O3 Gallery and the Old Fire Station. Regular exhibitions of student work take place in and around the city. We are also conveniently located for London's galleries, exhibitions and museums.
