Welcome to Fine Art and Art and Deign in the School of Arts

Our students develop, produce and exhibit challenging contemporary artworks in a wide range of media.

The creative industries need arts graduates; at Brookes our fine art degrees prepare you for a career in these fast growing areas of employment. Our range of programmes, from the Foundation in Art and Design, the undergraduate programmes in Fine Art and the MFA (Master of Fine Art) provides you with excellent teaching from practicing artists. Your technical development in a range of media will be supported by specialists in well-equipped workshops and you will develop the professional skills needed to succeed in the career of your choice, whether as an independent artist or employed in one of the dynamic arts industries.

Our academic and technical staff are closely involved with the arts organisations in the Oxford region, in London and the south east of UK; contacts that provide you with a grounding in the practical workings of an artistic community. Staff research informs the academic aspects of your studies and visits to local, regional and international arts venues provide stimulus for your own practice. You will meet visiting artists and other activists through the weekly lunchtime talks that everyone can attend.

Graduates from the Foundation in Art and Design diploma are admitted to some of the most prestigious art degree courses in the UK. Our students have progressed on to architecture and interior design programmes at Brookes; Chelsea School of Art, Central Saint Martins, Ruskin, Oxford University, The Slade and Goldsmiths to study Fine Art, Graphics, Illustration, fashion, textiles, jewellery, 3D design and model making.

Graduates from our undergraduate Fine Art programmes are currently working as independent artists, curators, gallery and museum managers, art teachers, art therapists, fashion photographers and web designers. Our graduates have been successful in securing places on Masters programmes at institutions including: the Slade School of Art (UCL), The Royal College of Art, UAL - Chelsea, Goldsmiths University, the Ruskin School of Fine Art - Oxford University and the Courtauld Institute.

Students joining the MFA in September 2017 will deepen and extend their artistic practice within a stimulating academic community.
