This is a beginner's course which focuses on developing the skills of listening and speaking in Mandarin Chinese. The course will equip students with useful words and phrases for practical use. It encompasses everyday communication such as greetings, speaking to friends, making an enquiry (about time/ directions/ reservations), and fulfilling daily needs (purchasing items / catching buses/ ordering food) etc. There will also be some cultural tips useful for travellers to China.
|* This course covers Lesson 1 to 10 in Confidence Chinese Volume 1. A follow-up course will be available in January.|

Xiaochen Zhang obtained an MSc in E-Business and Innovation Management from Lancaster University and an MSc in Educational Research from the University of Manchester. In 2016, Xiaochen took on the role of Deputy Director for the Brookes Confucius Institute. Prior to joining Oxford Brookes University, she was the office manager and Chinese Language tutor at the Confucius Institute at the University of Manchester for seven years. She has taught Mandarin to a diverse range of students with different learning needs and abilities and has developed innovative learning methods and teaching materials.
