Art and Design Foundation has outstanding outcomes
Brookes’ Foundation Studies in Art and Design course from the School of Arts has been judged to provide outstanding outcomes for students.
The report, published by Ofsted on 6 January, judged the course to be good overall and especially commended outcomes for learners, stating that: ‘Students achieve exceptionally well on the foundation course in art and design’. The report referred to the high numbers achieving distinctions (almost 50%), well above the national average for this course. It described the quality of students’ art and design work as outstanding and reported that ‘the great majority of students gain places in their chosen specialism, often in prestigious and highly competitive universities.’
The Foundation Course has one of the highest numbers of applications to places in the UK, receiving approximately 600 applications for 90 places each year.
Commenting on the report, Associate Dean, Student Experience in the Faculty of Technology, Design and Environment, Alison Honour said:
'This was our first Ofsted inspection so we knew that it would be highly unlikely to get a Grade 1 Outstanding overall so we were delighted with one of the three areas of Inspection, ‘Outcomes for Learners’ receiving Grade 1 Outstanding. This recognises the achievement and high standard of students’ work, quality of learning and teaching and successful progression of 98% of students to the most prestigious degree programmes in art and design in the UK. The Course Leader, Lucy Turner and the team deserve this recognition for their continuous hard work and dedication to the students on this programme.'
