Govind Chandran

Technical Specialist in Film Studies

Profile

Govind teaches on the practical pathway whilst providing technical support and mentoring to students on their short films.

Govind graduated with an MA in Film and a 1st Class Honours Degree in Film Studies from Oxford Brookes University, with his debut short film, Double or Nothing, being screened at the 2009 Cannes Film Festivals' Short Film Corner – the first of four subsequent appearances. His work has since been screened at Festival’s across the world, including being selected twice as Editors Choice in competition at the BFI Film Festival. His directorial debut in music videos was selected by American Idol host Ryan Seacrest as ‘One to Watch’, with further work appearing on MTV, Vevo and other outlets. Academically his MA dissertation focused on ‘Shared Universes’, with a look into ‘built worlds’ and transmedial storytelling being particular areas of interest.

As an active filmmaker he established a production company, working on corporate videos, advertising, actor showreels and more – with clients such as the NHS and various department stores. Under this company he has also been involved in a number of blockbuster feature films, and many independent projects that have gone on to receive critical acclaim. Govind also became the first person in the world to teach the RED Epic-Dragon at an educational institute, and is an expert in the industry standard RED systems, amongst others.

He has currently just completed a TV Series pilot for a large streaming service – with a big announcement coming soon!
