Jon Demspey is a Senior Lecturer in Media Technology in the School of Arts at Oxford Brookes University.

  • Visual Effects, Compositing and CGI
  • Special Effects Technology

Research Interests

Research is primarily concerned with developments in digital cinema and an audiences relationship with it.

Current areas of research include

  • Interactive Cinema
  • The Uncanny and the Fantastic in Virtual and Augmented Realities

Examples of projects or dissertation

How can we use post production colour grading to not only correct 'bad shots' but add something to the viewing experience; An Investigation into the importance of good optics to narrative drama and how to get the best out of cine lens adaptors for HD cameras; Build and Utilisation of a 3D Camera Rig to Shoot a 3D Film; Professional Audio Cleanup and Film Restoration in Conjunction with the BFI Archive.


  • Qualified Avid Certified Instructor to 200 (Professional) Level
  • Worked on numerous films over the years but some of the notable ones include
    • Nominated for a Palme d'Or at Cannes
    • Winner of Best British Short at Edinburgh IFF
    • Won International Jury Prize at Curto Circuito, Santiago de Compostela
    • Nominated for Best Film, Grand OFF Poland
    • Jury Special Mention- Alcine, Madrid
    • Winner of Public Prize for Best Film Une Nuit Trop Courte, Grenoble FRANCE
  • Had worked screened at over 40 international film festivals.
