Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies at the London Book Fair 2016

Students and staff from the Centre (Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies) were busy throughout the London Book Fair, held at Olympia from the 12 to 14 April 2016.

The Oxford Brookes stand featured our degree programmes, our staff publications, research and consultancy. We also took this opportunity to promote the June conference of the Oxfordshire Publishing Group, and our July summer school. Over 40 students helped out with the running of the fair, including manning the seminar rooms and the Author HQ, with two students helping on the Frankfurt Book Fair stand.

On the opening morning Angus Phillips, Head of the School of Arts and Director of OICPS, chaired a seminar, ‘The wisdom of crowds – crowdfunding and crowdsourcing’, on how authors and publishers are taking advantage of this phenomenon to source both content and funding. He was then invited by the BBC to feature on Open Book for BBC Radio 4.

On the Wednesday evening we hosted a reception for Oxford Brookes publishing alumni and friends of OICPS. We joined together to celebrate the arrival of the Confucius Institute at Brookes, with a celebration cake.
